Christmas Craft Foam Decorations

Get creative with these Christmas craft foam decorations - perfect for decorating the Christmas table, the Christmas tree, or the Christmas fridge!
Christmas craft foam decorations

You will need:
Craft foam - scraps in assorted colours Glitter, beads, marker pens etc for decoration Lollipop sticks (popsicle sticks) to make table decorations Craft magnets for fridge magnets Ribbon or cord for tree decorations Christmas templates if desired
Print out our templates, or draw your own Christmas shapes onto craft foam. Cut out carefully.

Decorate with whatever supplies you have to hand.
For our snowman we used two tiny beads for the eyes, a scrap of orange felt for the nose, and black felt tip pen to draw on a mouth. You could add a hat from black or brown craft foam, a scarf from red felt, or a ribbon.
For our star, we painted  (white) glue on the craft foam shape and sprinkled gold glitter over.
Our tree is decorated with tiny beads and gems.
Either attach the finished shapes to lollipop sticks, glue on craft magnets, or attach a small loop of ribbon to the back. For a really neat finish for a Christmas tree decoration, you could cut a second shape just like the first and sandwich the ribbon between the shapes before gluing.

Christmas at Activity Village!

Ribbon Picture Card

This is a good card if you need something that the children can turn out quickly - even "assembly line" style! There are lots of pretty Christmas ribbons available in the shops with pictures on them. Alternatively, you could of course use pictures cut from last year's Christmas cards, or you could buy a piece of Christmas quilting fabric - the kind with lots of small individual pictures.

Ribbon picture card

You will need:
1. A card blank
2. Decorative paper of fabric
3. Fancy ribbon

4. Glue
You have to: Cut a piece of ribbon with a complete picture. Cut a piece of paper slightly larger than the ribbon, using decorating scissors if you like.
Glue the paper to the card and the ribbon on top of the paper.

The nativity Story.

On 24th and 25th December every year, Christians all around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. Nativity scenes are erected outside churches and children re-enact the wonderful story in Nativity plays.
Teacher Paula offers a selection of Nativity resources which can be used in church, home or school during your Christmas celebrations.

Psychomotor activity for children.

SALTARIN’S HISTORY

Once upon a time , in a faraway forest, lived a family of rabbits. The
mum, named Lola, was a white girl bunny, very good and spoiled his
children very much. (Caressing gesture)
Instead, the daddy, named Leo, was the most serious of the family. He
always wore his hat and never laughed. (They put straight face and
pretend to wear a hat)
In the family there were three children. The eldest was named Brincos,
and he loved jumping through the forest. (Imitate a rabbit jumping)
The medium was called Orejitas , and had the biggest ears in the world,
at times, stepped on to the legs to jump, but he loved show them and
hide behind them. (They pretend to have very large ears, and hide
behind them)
And finally, Saltarín was the smallest rabbit of the family. Had only two
years old, and her mother always cared him. Saltarin was very curious,
and loved making friends. (They look around as if looking for friends)
One day, the whole family went to the birthday party of Rita, the frog.
At the party they played catch (playing catch), and they also break the
piñata (break simulate with a stick). And when they were tired, they sat
down to have a lunch. (Moving their mouth as if chewing)
When it got late, returned home but Saltarín was very angry because he
wanted to stay in the party. (Imitate be angry)
Then, Saltarín decided to escape and go back to the party. But it was
impossible, as it was very small and didn’t remember the way. Thus
Saltarín lost. He was leaping nonstop until he realized that I knew nothing
of what he saw around him. So Saltarín began to cry, and ended waking
up to the snake. (Simulate cry)
The snake approached him (mimic a snake crawling) and asked, "
What's happens Bunny?” And Saltarin answered with very sad voice. "
You 've lost me , and I want to go home "
The snake promised to help him find his family. But suddenly willing to
help more animals began to appear .
First came the cat ( crawl and imitate the sound of the cat ), then the
bird came ( simulate the flight and the sound ), then the kangaroo
approached ( mimicking the kangaroo ) and finally the elephant arrived
( having simulated horn) .
All together , journeyed to find the parents of Saltarín , but it was very
difficult.
First, they found a river , and had to cross the large rocks taking
advantage of the fund. ( Simulate cross the river by jumping over
hoops ) . JUMP
Later , they found a very dark tunnel , and they had to cross . ( They
crawl beneath a row of tables covered with sheets )
Then came a very narrow, old bridge, and to cross without breaking ,
spent carefully. ( They walk on a line keeping the balance )
When all had crossed , they heard very strong strides. ( Imitate the stride
)It was the elf Ramon. The most feared in the forest. The elf Ramon, was
always angry, and didn’t like to see any animal near his mushroom .
The animals began to run, until they came to a big tree and decided to
climb . But to do so they had to climb. ( They make a race , and then
simulate climbing a tree)
Once they had gone Elf Ramon, down from the tree and continued their
journey .
But they found a fallen tree in the road , so they had to remove it to pass
. ( Simulate transport the tree)
They were very tired and decided to lie down in a prairie.
And suddenly, Saltarín looked around , and realized that this was his
prairie. That in this prairie, was his burrow. And he began to call his mum .
The mum , the daddy and the two brothers , went very fast, and seeing
him , ran to give lots of kisses and hugs. ( They hug each other)
Animals that had helped Saltarín , they were very happy and started
jumping too. ( Jumping )
Later , they went home , happy to have helped his friend Saltarín .
Jumping and his family, celebrate that were together again , with a
lovely dinner , but the bunny was very tired of their adventure and went
to the bed early ( simulate bedtime) , very happy because he had
learned that there was to disobey the dads or go away from them
anymore.

Hearts with Sequins

We found these lovely large sequins at the local craft store and snapped them up! With them we have made some very pretty, but simple, home-made Valentine's Day cards.

Valentine Cards with sequins

Fold a simple piece of white (or pink) card in two and get your children sticking! We used school glue and exercised lots of  restraint! Younger children can cover the page with as many sequins as they like - usually the more the better.
For the card on the right, we cut a simple square out of our red gingham scrapbook paper to use as a mount.

Activities post-telling

The other day I was talking about the importance to do activities pre-telling with our pupils before to tell a tale or story, so today I want to talk you about the activities post-telling. These activities are important too because they will show us if our students have learnt the things that we have proposed before telling the tale, so we can use them to evaluate their knowledge.

Some example of activities:

Memory: This activity consists to put in the floor some couples of pictures from the tale face down, and our pupils have to try to guess the couples putting them face up. We will say to our children that they have to make a circle around the pictures and one by one has to guess the couples. When they get the couple, they have to say the name of the image from the picture aloud.

Mimo:  This activity consists that our children will be sitting down on the floor and one or two of them will have to represent a scene from the tale to the rest of their classmates but he/she cannot say anything. The rest of the class have to guess the scene describing it.

Rudolph cupcakes.

These Rudolph cupcakes are a chocolate cupcake variation with a lovely Christmas twist! The kids will enjoy helping you to decorate them and they will certainly enjoy helping you to eat them. They look good enough to serve at a Christmas party, too.
Rudolph cupcakes

These Rudolph cupcakes make a delicious treat at Christmas!
Ingredients:
makes 24 (can easily be halved)
225g margarine
200g caster sugar
50g cocoa powder
200g self raising flour
4 eggs
3-4 tablespoons of milk
200g milk choc chips
200g plain choc chips
100g unsalted butter
150g icing sugar
Red glace cherries

Method:
Preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4.
Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time.
Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the bowl and fold into the wet mix. Add a little milk if needed.
Line 2 bun tins with cupcake cases and fill each with a spoonful of cake mix.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Put aside 48 plain chocolate chips for decorating the cupcakes.
Melt half of the remainder of the plain chocolate in a microwave. Drizzle onto greaseproof paper into antler shapes. Repeat with the rest of the plain chocolate.
Due to the need to work quickly it is best to make the icing in two parts. Melt 100g milk chocolate and 50g of unsalted butter in the microwave. Stir in 75g icing sugar. Cover 12 of the cakes.
Carefully peel off 24 'antlers' from the greaseproof paper and stick 2 to each cake. Add two choc chips as eyes and a cherry as a nose to each cake.
Repeat to decorate the remaining dozen cakes.

Our best stories

Hi teachers!

Here we go! These are my stories  for students of third grade in the Primary School, These stories are simple to understand for them. Furthermore, the tale’s story is known and this facilitates their interest in reading.

                                         THE SLEEPING BEAUTY

We have chosen the tale of The Sleeping Beauty, for students of third grade in the Primary School, because we think it is simple to understand for them.

At the beginning of the session we will give to every student a glossary* with vocabulary, that is going to appear along the story, and they can check it in case that they have any doubt.

When they finish the story, the teacher will ask questions to the students (e.g. what do you think about the story? Would you like that the story had another ending? What book would you like to read?). After the questions, the teacher organizes the students in couples and asks them to choose a tale.

In the next session the teacher teaches them the tale of The Sleeping Beauty modified, with another atmosphere, even with others characters, but they have to respect the base of the story.

The end of this activity consists in seeing the students’ creativity and their talent when they imagine a story based on other.

An example of this:

In the original story Aurora faints when she touches the spinning machine.

And in the modified story Beauty faints when she drinks from a beautiful flowe
This is just an example, the teacher will have taught the whole modified story.

                                 TOM SAWYER

We chose the story of Tom Sawyer, the book tells the adventures of a young boy which could be identified by our students, Tom is a naughty boy and likes to make new friends.
To work this story, students would read 4 or 5 pages each day in the classroom. In this way we ensure that all children read the story and go at the same time , which would not happen if they read at home. Children have a glossary of words from the story which would underlining those whose meaning is not understood. At the end of the story, they have to made various activities included in the book. The teacher during reading sessions, would make questions to see if the children have understood the reading.
Once these activities are realized, the teacher shows them a video where you made on the goanimate.com portal a video with scenes of the story. The activity that have to do the is to create a video that is related to the reading or continue the end. They would work in pairs and the session would take place in the computer room.
